In ten years of serving as a correspondent and selling his writing in such periodicals as the New Orleans Daily Item, Times-Democrat, Harper's Weekly 4/5(1).
Lafcadio Hearn Hearn's multi-culturalism as a writer was based on his experiences living on several continents. He was born in and named after the island of Lefkada, one of the Greek Ionian Islands, his father was Irish, the highest ranking surgeon, his mother Greek. 4) Life and Literature - I made the mistake, earlier in my Hearn studies, of mistaking Life and Literature for Bisland's oft-cited Life and Letters. Also adding to the confusion of Erskine's books is the fact that the original volumes were created primarily for libraries thus resulting in bulky and expensive copies.
Lafcadio Hearn was born on the Ionian island of Santa Maura in either June or August and died in Okubo, Japan in His father was an Irish surgeon major stationed in Greece and his mother a Greek woman, famous for her beauty. "In the letters [among] themselves, Lafcadio Hearn seems to have had a greater desire to visualize his mother than to seek the comradeship of a brother. The remote and inaccessible seemed always to be nearest his heart.".

Collection uconn_libraries; americana Digitizing sponsor LYRASIS Members and Sloan FoundationPages: A singular figure in American letters, Lafcadio Hearn (?) had a life as complex as his heritage: born on the Greek isle of Lefkas to a Greek mother and an Irish father, raised in Dublin and Durham, he made his name as a writer in the United States before settling permanently in Japan.4/5.
Like the last book I read of Mr. Hearn, 1CKwaidan 1D, this book starts out with a interesting and fun sampling of Japanese ghost stories and folk tales.
About 1/5 of the way through the book, we meander off to other things. Essays on cicadas, the first names of women in japan, and a fine selection of poetry and songs. All charming, if not a bit /5. I think it would be acceptably to add Lean Hearn to the legacy section. She is an author who's real name escapes me, but her pen name is after Patric Hearn.
Just a suggestion Lian Hearn sources Lafcadio Hearn as both an inspiration and as one of her primary references for her novels set in a fictional Japan, so I think it is appropriate to add her. Lafcadio Hearn lived a kind of loose cannonball life, but both interesting and productive. Born half Greek on an Ionian island to a British military doctor and local woman, he grew up there, in Ireland, England, and France with little or no home life/5().
